This chicken is completely jet black and looks like nothing you’ve seen before. Found mainly in Indonesia, the Ayam Cemani is an extreme example of a phenomenon called hyperpigmentation. This causes all the pigment in the bird’s body to become supersaturated and dark. This condition causes everything in the bird’s body from its feathers to its meat and even its bones to develop a deep black colour. Now just like a white-coloured chicken lays a white-coloured you would think that a black chicken would lay black eggs. And you would be kind of right. You see, these chickens don't lay jet black eggs, instead, their eggs are mostly creamy pink in colour but ever so often one of the eggs comes out with a dark blue hue. The breed typically only lays one egg per week. But even that's not a guarantee. They may spend up to six months without laying a single egg which makes this breed incredibly rare. Their eggs are substantially bigger than typical chicken eggs and can have a creamy texture that makes them a rare delicacy in Indonesian cuisine. However, due to their rarity, Ayam Cemani eggs can cost up to 40 or 50 times as much as regular chicken eggs, but they are definitely worth trying. That is if you ever get the chance of course. Emu Giant eggs for a giant bird! Emu eggs look just like what you would expect them to. They are huge green balls that look more like some sort of malachite treasure than an egg. But these eggs don't only look premium, they also feel premium because of their texture. Emu eggs are a greenish-blue colour and have a texture similar to Damascus steel. Because of how tough their shell is, it requires practice and expertise to crack them open without breaking the entire egg. They are roughly eight to ten times bigger than an ordinary chicken egg and contain a 45% yolk to 55% white ratio. One egg is big enough to feed three or four people. The yolks are super creamy in texture and taste great which has made them a regular on upscale restaurant menus as of late. Real emu eggs can cost 30 times more than regular chicken eggs.
