Think about it. They let The Little Mermaid convince us of how wonderful things surround you…under the sea. Okay. The song did have a point when it came to humans having to work all day. However, that doesn't change the fact that some marine animals aren’t so wonderful. Case in point, the sarcastic fringehead. Before you ask, the “Sarcastic” part of its name comes from the Greek sarkasmós. Meaning to tear or to bite. What did you expect us to say From its comedic genius Anyhoo, the “Fringehead” part, on the other hand, stems from the soft appendages that rise above its head. We know what you’re thinking. “Get to the terrifying bits already.” Hold your horses. Sheesh. To begin with, the fringehead is really temperamental. On top of that, it’s highly territorial. So to say, it’ll attack anything from a scuba diver to another fringehead. Now, the way that it attacks is why it's on our lineup. Basically, it fans out its specially designed jaws to appear more intimidating. Take a look. Pray to tell, what does it remind you of Let’s give you a hint. The Quiet Place. It looks exactly like the Death Angels from the film. Ten times smaller agreed. But equally unsightly. We mean, the inside of its gaping mouth is pretty colorful. Sadly, it doesn’t do it any favors. More to the point, it helps it ward things off. Speaking of gaping mouths, it also reminds us of the Venus Fly Trap. Again, not the most attractive of plants. The Hagfish If slimy things give you the heebie-jeebies; prepare to be, well, heebie-jellied. Because here’s a creature that produces enough slime to fill a sizable bucket. We’re referring to none other than the hagfish. An eel-like fish that’s been living in our oceans for over 300 million years now. Unfortunately, however, evolution hasn’t come to its aid in all these years. In terms of attractiveness, that is. But if we were to speak of defensive developments, some of the best ones came to their lot. To elaborate, its slime—which has been compared to an underwater spider’s web—allows it to clog a predator’s gills. It can even make sharks gag. Sharks. But that’s not all. The slime also helps them wriggle into slits half their size. Now, apart from their slime, they also have really loose skin. Which is why they're hard to bite down on. Unless, of course, you’re at a bougie Korean restaurant. You know Since Koreans eat it as a kind of delicacy. Good for them. We, however, wouldn’t eat an undersea equivalent of an alien even if our life depended on it. Just think of all that slime… Follow Us On Social Media Twitter https://twitter.com/FactsJunkieYT Facebook https://www.facebook.com/FactsJunkieYT ► For copyright issues, send us an email at: factsjunkie@gmail.com
